Special Release // April Showers Bring May Flowers

Just in time for Mother’s Day and graduation, we have a limited special artwork release coming in the first few days of May. Enjoy a sneak peek and a little history on where this artwork came from.

I discovered printmaking in art school. I loved the focus on composition and graphic color, which led naturally to my emphasis (and later career) in graphic design. One of the very first prints I made was a sunflower block print. It’s also one of the first art pieces that I ever really felt was “good” thus far in my art studies. I pulled many different versions of this print that semester. The one pictured here, titled “Vibrant Beginnings,” was a special one that I gave my mom for Mother’s Day. She had it framed and it still hangs in my parents’ house today, over 20 years later. It was a vibrant beginning, indeed.

With Mother’s Day and Graduations coming up, I felt like this was the time to revisit the print.

I found my old printing block tucked away with some other things from college, but it had a little damage on it, so I took this as opportunity to carve a new one. I redrew the sunflower, carved a fresh linoleum block and began test printing.

I’ve been printing away for the last week or so, in a variety of coastal inspired colors (because I’ve got to stay on brand somewhere with the introduction of a floral, right?). A small numbered and signed print collection will launch in the first week of May. Available both framed and unframed, each print measures 9x12 inches.

This collection is near and dear to my heart, and I hope that you enjoy this refreshingly different piece of artwork from me. It’s always time for a Vibrant Beginning.
